On November 17, 2025, the International Peace Taekwondo Delegation led by Mr. Lee Sang-ki, President of the World Children's Taekwondo Federation, and Mr. Kim Sang-jin, President of the Asian Taekwondo Federation (ATU) and President of the Virtual Taekwondo Association (Electronic Simulation). had a deep discussion with Mr. Li Ruohong, the chairman of the China World Peace Foundation and the President of the Beijing International Peace Culture Foundation, at the Peace Garden Museum on topics such as innovation in international sports education and cultural exchanges among teenagers.
At the symposium, Chairman Li Ruohong first reviewed the profound cooperation basis between China and South Korea in the fields of culture and sports. He emphasized that sports have long become a universal language that transcends national boundaries. Promoting peace through sports and enhancing international cultural exchanges and understanding cooperation is our mission. The foundation is willing to take “peace and sports” as the core driving force to build a broader exchange platform for the Taekwondo communities of China, South Korea and even Asia, and make peace sports a solid bridge to enhance people-to-people bonds.
The representative of South Korea stated that during this visit to China with the delegation, they hope to continue the long-standing tradition of friendly cooperation with Mr. Li Ruohong and deepen the coordinated development of the Asian Taekwondo community.It is reported that the Asian Taekwondo Federation, as an international sports administrative body covering 44 Asian member states including China, South Korea and India, has continuously enhanced its competitive value and international influence. The delegation highly commended the Beijing International Peace Culture Foundation for its active efforts in youth sports education and public welfare.
After consultation, both sides reached multiple consensus and clarified the cooperation path: In 2026, they will jointly launch a series of cooperation projects, covering multiple dimensions such as the popularization of Taekwondo education in schools, cross-border youth exchange events, and sports public welfare assistance. This plan will promote the cooperation between Chinese and South Korean Taekwondo to extend from the competitive level to the fields of education and public welfare.
Kim Kwan-young, the governor of Jeonbuk Province, Lee Sang-ki, the special assistant to the General Manager of the Asian Taekwondo Federation (a director of the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation), Lee Go-beom, the Consultative Committee Chairman of the Asian Taekwondo Federation (a director of the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation), and other high-ranking officials from South Korea and relevant figures from Jeonbuk Province participated in the symposium. The two sides also exchanged views on innovative topics such as the application of sports technology like Virtual Taekwondo (electronic simulation) and the joint cultivation of Asian youth Taekwondo talents, injecting new ideas into the internationalization and rejuvenation of traditional sports.
