In celebrating the opening of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and displaying China’s achievements in poverty alleviation since the 18th CPC National Congress, the Cyberspace Administration of China is holding a photo contest – “Photo Stories of People Shaking off Poverty” to tell lively stories of poverty-relief work across China. Its offline event “Photo Stories of People Shaking off Poverty – Ganzhou” will be held from May 18th to 21st in Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province.

Journalists from over 10 mainstream media, including People.cn, Xinhuanet, CCTV COM, China.com.cn, GMW.cn, Chinanews.com, Youth.cn, ChinaTaiwan, SOHU, 21dnn.com, and News Weekend, and editors from Kuaishou, Lishipin, and other video websites will participate in the event. Under the guidance of the Cyberspace Administration of China and sponsored by the China Internet Network Information Center, this event will be co-hosted by China.com.cn, China Poverty Reduction Online, and China Development Gateway, and co-organized by the publicity department of the municipal party committee of Ganzhou City and Beijing International Peace and Culture Foundation.

Located in the south of Jiangxi Province, Ganzhou City, also known as Gannan, is a key area for poverty reduction, with 11 poverty-stricken regions in the Luoxiao Mountain, including 8 key counties for national poverty alleviation and 932 poor villages under provincial support. By the end of 2016, the city’s poverty population is 431,400, with a poverty incidence of 5.7%.

During the event, journalists will give in-depth and informative report on the practice of the poverty-alleviation philosophy of the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core. Their reports will show substantial achievements of poverty-relief work in ecommerce, industries, and rural tourism in the form of print, pictures, and videos.

The contest will officially start on March 8th. It will collect photo stories and short videos from shutterbugs, photo takers, and cyber citizens to tell vivid stories of people shaking off poverty. It will also show China’s urban and rural development. The deadline of submission is June 6th.
