Belt and Road Cultural Event-Japanese Incense Ceremony at Peace Garden Museum
Date:2016-11-29     Source:BJIPCF     Count:9030

Japanese incense ceremony performance was given by 86 year-old master and inheritor at Beijing Peace Garden Museum on November 29th 2016.

It was the first time for the incense master to perform in Beijing, making his debut at Beijing Peace Garden Museum, which is a channel to conduct cultural exchange and international dialogue, linking China to the rest of the world.

Incense was first introduced to Japan in Dahe Dynasty along with Buddhism. An enormous bulk of incense wood was shipped to Japan, not only used to burn in front of shrines but also at ceremonial events, making incense wood gradually and increasingly precious. At the same time, Chinese herbs and spices were brought to Japan, with which Japanese created a sophisticated process to produce mixed incense, laying the foundation for a prosperous and rich incense culture that brewed the incense ceremony.

This meaningful event garnered wide support from China Culture Association, Silk Road City Alliance, China Calligraphy Association, Beijing Cultural Development Foundation etc. and received positive remarks from all participants who expressed their wishes to take part again next time.

After the performance, guests and performers were given a tour around the Peace Garden Museum.
